Our Japan Team

Since our early beginning in the 1860’s, Maple Leaf Foods has been involved in meat processing and exporting pork products. Today, as Canada’s leading food processor and food exporter we remain committed to enriching consumer experience by delivering high quality products to meet the changing needs of the market.

Japan is a primary market for Maple Leaf Foods. We have been supplying pork in accordance with Japanese requirements for over 30 years –since the liberalization of pork imports in 1971. Our facilities in Brandon and Lethbridge are highly attuned to the expectations of Japanese consumers and reflect our ongoing commitment to the partnerships we have developed in your country. We are committed to investing in our world-class research, the development of safe, premium quality and great tasting pork products and delivering these to the advanced food culture that exists in Japan.

Our industry plays an enormous role in nourishing billions of people. Global meat production is a worthy endeavor with great benefits, but also, a great impact to the planet. At Maple Leaf we are working towards more sustainable food production, which means we do things smarter, better and more responsibly. We need to ensure that we supply safe, healthy and nutritious food starting, at the very beginning of the process, by treating animals well. Creating a sustainable future for the generations that follow in accordance with the highest global standards of food safety is a core value at Maple Leaf.

We want to contribute to the rich Japanese cultural and dining experience and understand that to do this, we need to work in partnership with our valued customers. We believe sustainable practices are a key platform that will enable us moving forward. As always, we appreciate your kind understanding and continuing support of our operations in Japan.
