Food Safety and Quality

Before going into the cartons, all chilled products pass through individual piece metal detection. Collar Butts and Backs all pass through and X-ray machine. Then each piece of chilled product is individually inspected for defects. After going into the cartons, all chilled product is put into our equilibration cooler overnight to ensure it is shipped at the optimum temperature.
In addition to quality, food safety is also of the utmost importance at Brandon. We are a HACCP approved facility with a full Quality Assurance team. Our team performs daily carcass and pre-operational swabs and does extensive microbiological testing in our on-site laboratory. The results are tracked in scorecards which allows us to watch for trends.
In addition to our stringent MLF audits, the operation is also subjected to an annual British Retail Consortium (BRC) Audit. BRC is recognized as a leader in Global Standards for Food Safety. Brandon consistently achieves the highest grade of “AA” in our BRC audits.
Maple Leaf follows CFIA & JAS for medication withdraw times and limits, achieving the highest standard possible. Medications are always applied by our veterinary staff with the strictest of controls.
